During a press conference today with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Donald Trump claimed, “We’ve already solved inflation. We’ve solved prices.” That couldn’t be further from the truth — his reckless economic policies have driven up inflation, caused prices to skyrocket, and fueled mass layoffs. 

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement: 

“Donald Trump’s outrageous claim that he’s ‘already solved inflation’ is a slap in the face to Americans who are struggling under his trainwreck of an economy. Trump’s disastrous economic policies have done nothing to bring down costs; in fact, inflation is rising under his watch. While he’s been riding around in gilded carriages overseas, his billionaire-first agenda is a living hell for working families who are just trying to make ends meet.”

Trump has done quite the opposite of “solving inflation”: In reality, inflation is climbing as prices skyrocket. A recent report showed that the U.S. economy may be in a state of early-onset stagflation, meaning that the economy is slowing down, but prices are going up. And just yesterday, the Federal Reserve made a small cut to interest rates to bolster a weakening job market that is being weighed down by Trump’s disastrous policies.
