JD Vance is back in Michigan today to double down on Donald Trump’s disastrous economic agenda. The last time Vance visited the state, he promised a manufacturing renaissance. Instead, the manufacturing sector has shrunk by 42,000 jobs nationally and 1,300 in Michigan alone since Vance’s last visit.

In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement: 

“After promising a manufacturing renaissance, JD Vance has a lot of nerve going back to Michigan to sell his billionaire-first budget. Instead of a ‘great American comeback,’ Trump and Vance have delivered an economic disaster: Prices are soaring, wages are decreasing, jobs are disappearing, and the manufacturing sector is being gutted. There’s no hiding the truth that Trump’s reckless economic policies are failing working and middle-class families in Michigan. That’s why Democrats are fighting to make the economy work for regular people – not just billionaires and elites.”

When he was in Michigan in March, Vance bragged about how inflation appeared on track to improve — but since then, under the Trump-Vance administration, inflation has steadily risen and is expected to get even worse. Despite Trump and Vance’s promises of lower energy costs for manufacturers and ratepayers, electricity prices have reached an all-time high since Trump took office. The truth is that Michiganders are being crushed by Trump’s unhinged economic policies.

Trump’s economy is a disaster all around: The US economy is slowing down while inflation ticks up, and wages continue to decrease. Vance can spin the most unpopular legislation in modern history all he wants, but Americans know the truth: Trump’s economy is in free fall and families are paying the price.
