ICYMI: Axios: DNC Bets on New AI and Tech Tools

Today, the DNC announced brand new tech pilot programs as part of its mission to develop a powerful slate of tools and technology that state parties and coordinated campaigns can use to turbocharge Democratic technology for years to come.

These tools include:

  • Winnable: Winnable has developed a brand new events platform that allows volunteers to seamlessly sign up for multiple in-person and virtual events at once.

  • OpenField: OpenField is an innovative canvassing app that allows organizers and volunteers to capture qualitative data from conversations, whether at a voter’s door or at a community event. With OpenField, it’s easier than ever to enter and analyze qualitative data from each organizing shift, allowing campaigns to better track, understand, and plan their on-the-ground outreach programs.

  • Matchbook: Indigo Engineering has developed a brand new voter and volunteer management database that includes the ability to conduct data analysis in ways not available in current tools, empowering campaigns to better target voters and volunteers to better optimize outreach.

  • OutOrganize: OutOrganize is a brand-new tool that centralizes volunteer outreach lists for organizers, providing valuable insights on past interactions to foster more personalized relationships with volunteers. We supported OutOrganize in expanding their existing pilot with the Virginia Coordinated Campaign to additional teams statewide.
  • Votebuilder: A long-standing piece of infrastructure in the Democratic party, we’re using Votebuilder to run and test innovative voter contact programs at scale in key 2025 election states. In Virginia, Democrats launched a cutting-edge program to activate and deploy small business owners to host community and volunteer events. Because of Votebuilder, Democrats in Virginia have deployed small business canvassing at a scale never before seen.

With the 2025 November elections fast approaching and the 2026 and 2028 elections around the corner, the DNC is committed to reimagining how Democrats organize, re-evaluating the tools Democrats use, and investing in innovation to create long-standing Democratic infrastructure that will guarantee our success in the years ahead.

Axios: First look: DNC bets on new AI and tech tools
By Maria Curi

  • The Democratic National Committee is planning to expand the use of AI and tech tools for voter and volunteer engagement in the upcoming midterm and presidential elections after testing them in key state races this year.
  • Democrats are facing highly competitive elections in Virginia, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania and redistricting fights with Republicans all over the country — and the DNC sees these tools as an edge in 2025 and beyond.
  • “Simply put, these tools and pilot programs are a game-changer,” DNC Chair Ken Martin said in a press release shared first with Axios.
  • Matchbook has a new voter and volunteer management database and AI modeling functions that allow users to optimize their campaign outreach by knowing who is likely to flip, per the DNC press release.
  • The app gives organizers the ability to access data from conversations with voters during high-traffic canvassing, and organizers are using it to talk to students and help them check their voter registration.
  • In Missouri, the DNC said it’s piloting Winnable, an events platform, to power the state Democratic party’s efforts to block congressional maps drawn by Republicans from going into effect.
  • The bottom line: The DNC is ramping up its AI and tech playbook ahead of key elections.
  • “We’re excited to be piloting and investing in innovative and emerging technologies that will benefit the Democratic ecosystem and campaigns for years to come,” Martin said.
