Colorado Newsline: Democratic state lawmakers prep Coloradans ahead of special session

“Ahead of a special legislative session to rebalance Colorado’s budget, Democratic lawmakers are briefing their constituents on the cause of the fiscal challenge and the policy solutions they will debate later this week.

“‘That (federal) tax law went right into our budget and shot a $1.2 billion hole in what was a balanced budget,’ Rep. Bob Marshall, a Highlands Ranch Democrat, told a room of about 80 people in Lone Tree on Monday night.

“Marshall said his events typically draw anywhere from a handful to a few dozen attendees. This time, the seats were full and people stood on the perimeter of the room to listen to his remarks.

“It was an already-planned town hall, but Marshall coupled it with a series of events across the state hosted by the Colorado Democratic Party to explain the fallout of the recent Republican tax and spending cut bill to Coloradans. The congressional bill, backed by President Donald Trump, is also known as H.R. 1, or the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

“‘We have such a unique budget situation here in the state and people need to know the ramifications in these big federal actions that will take effect for years,’ Shad Murib, the party chair, said after the town hall.”

WAVE: KDP leaders make stop in Louisville as part of ‘Medicaid Defense Tour’

[WAVE Staff, 8/21/25]

“The Kentucky Democratic Party is touring across the state to spread awareness about the impacts these cuts will have.

“Leaders made their second stop here in Louisville, highlighting that Medicaid covers about half of all births in Kentucky.

“They say these cuts to Medicaid will impact the Commonwealth even more than any other state.

“‘35 rural hospitals are set to close in Kentucky, more than any other state,’ said Congressman Morgan McGarvey. ‘130,000 rural Kentuckians are set to lose their healthcare. More than any other state. We will lose 12 billion dollars in Medicaid funding over the next 10 years, more than any other state. Jobs will be lost. More importantly, lives will be lost. We have to do better. We have to do more, because otherwise our future is quite literally at risk.’”

LEX 18: Kentucky Democrats raise concerns about Medicaid cuts’ impact on families

[LEX 18 Staff, 8/21/25]

“Kentucky Democrats are voicing concerns that Medicaid cuts in President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill could make it harder for Kentucky families to have and raise children.

“During a press conference in Louisville on Thursday, Democratic leaders highlighted statistics showing that half of all births in Kentucky are covered by Medicaid, raising alarm about the potential impacts on women’s and children’s health.

“‘One out of every two kids born in the state is born because it’s covered by Medicaid,’ Representative Morgan McGarvey said.

“McGarvey argued that cutting this funding would directly impact the health of Kentucky women and children. He also pointed out that as birth rates drop worldwide, Medicaid cuts could worsen the demographic trend.

“‘These cuts to Medicaid, they are making it harder for people to have families. They are making it harder to have children,’ McGarvey said.”
