California Democrats are standing up against Trump’s attempts to rig the maps

Today, California Democrats officially put Proposition 50, the “Election Rigging Response Act,” on the ballot in November for California voters to fight back against Donald Trump’s attempts to rig the maps. 

Following Trump and Republicans’ passing of devastating legislation that will kick millions of Americans off of health care and food assistance, they concocted a scheme to avoid accountability by rigging congressional maps in states with Republican majorities. 

With the California legislature and Governor Newsom moving quickly, California Democrats are striking back against Donald Trump by giving California voters the chance to respond in kind and even the playing field.

DNC Chair Ken Martin issued the following statement: 

“The DNC stands with Governor Newsom and the California legislature in putting the power in the hands of the people of California to approve emergency congressional district maps and Democrats are fighting fire with fire against Trump and Republicans’ attempts to rig congressional maps. When faced with the reality that he was going to lose in the midterms, Donald Trump did what he always does: He cheated. He thought he could rig the maps, Democrats would fold, and we’d all move on. Governor Gavin Newsom and the California Democrats had another idea: giving Donald Trump a showdown and meeting the moment to fight back against Trump’s craven, authoritarian power grab. Every Californian should vote for Democrats’ measure to level the playing field. This isn’t just about California. The basic premise of Americans — instead of Donald Trump — choosing their elected officials is at stake.”
