IN THE STATES: Democrats Lead Fight Against Trump and Republicans’ Extreme Gerrymandering and Attacks on Working Families
August 15, 2025
Donald Trump is on a mission to get every Republican to help him rig congressional seats to save their razor-thin House majority — but Democrats will protect Americans’ votes. We are fighting “fire with fire” to block Trump’s takeover and protect Americans’ constitutional rights. Tomorrow, the DNC, alongside Texas for All and other national and state partners, will host “Fight the Trump Takeover” demonstrations across the nation. In every corner of the country, people will show up at their statehouses, city halls, and community spaces to stand up to Trump.

As part of “Organizing Summer,” Democrats held town halls and tours in Missouri, Michigan, and Kentucky to hold Donald Trump and Republicans accountable for hurting working families with their Big Budget Betrayal and attempting to take power away from voters with their gerrymandering scheme. In Kentucky, Democrats made clear that rural hospitals will close thanks to Trump’s budget. In Missouri, Senator Tammy Duckworth, alongside Missouri Democrats, slammed Republicans for allowing Missourians to lose health care and food assistance programs, all while threatening to undermine Missourians’ votes. In Michigan, the chair of the Michigan Democratic Party, Curtis Hertel, highlighted how Trump’s tax scam robs Michiganders of the money in their pocketbooks and their lifesaving health care — all to line the pockets of his billionaire donors.

Meanwhile, Republican lawmakers are getting drowned out by boos and jeers at town hall events by their own constituents. Instead of protecting the people who sent them to Washington, Trump’s congressional puppets like Reps. Doug LaMalfa and Harriet Hageman rubberstamped his disastrous budget scam that screws over working families at every turn to give tax giveaways to their billionaire donors. Now, Republicans are facing the wrath of angry constituents at town hall meetings — and soon, the ballot box.

Through the Talk-Back Tour, Democrats will mobilize and organize voters ready to reject Republicans’ extreme agenda and gear up to win up and down the ballot in every corner of the state.
