Today’s Consumer Price Index report confirms that Donald Trump’s billionaire-first agenda is skyrocketing prices and drawing out economic uncertainty. In Trump’s economy, core inflation ticked above 3% for the first time since February.

In response, DNC Communications Director Rosemary Boeglin released the following statement:

“Donald Trump is steering the economy off a cliff, as core inflation rises to over 3%. Working families are already cutting back on basic necessities asTrump’s billionaire-first agenda makes life more expensive. While his budget explodes the deficit and enables the largest wealth transfer in history from the working and middle classes to the ultrawealthy, Trump’s erratic trade war continues to accelerate inflation and jack up prices. While Trump profits off the presidency, hardworking Americans are struggling to get by with no end in sight.”

Trump’s erratic trade war is accelerating core inflation as prices skyrocket “at the fastest annual pace in five months.” Under Trump, service prices such as airfare and medical care costs jumped this month by “the most since the start of the year.” And economists warn that Trump’s inflationary trade war will only push prices higher in the coming months.

Life continues to get more expensive under Trump’s disastrous agenda, as prices for the following goods jumped in the last month alone: 

• Ground beef increased 2.4% 
• Ham increased 3.7% 
• Pork chops increased 2.0%
• Milk increased 1.9%
• Oranges increased 2.1%
• Lettuce increased 4.0%
• Tomatoes increased 3.3%
• Coffee increased 2.3%
• Bedroom furniture increased 1.5%
• Dishes and flatware increased 2.0%
• Footwear increased 1.4%
• Infants’ and toddlers’ apparel increased 3.3%
• Airline fares increased 4.0%
