IN THE STATES: From Investing Seven-Figures in New Jersey to Breaking Quorum in Texas, Democrats are Bringing a “Knife to a Knife Fight”

This week, the DNC announced a seven-figure investment into the New Jersey Democratic Coordinated Campaign. The DNC’s $1.5 million initial investment will strengthen voter contact efforts, mobilize organizers and key staff, expand Democrats’ reach to key swing constituencies, and fund new tactics and tools to ensure our message is resonating with voters across the state. While New Jerseyans brace for Trump’s draconian cuts to food assistance and health care, Democratic gubernatorial nominee Mikie Sherrill and New Jersey Democrats’ defeat of Trump lackey Jack Ciattarelli and other extremists will send a powerful signal to Republicans that voters will hold them accountable for lining the pockets of billionaires at the expense of hardworking Americans.

On Tuesday, DNC Chair Ken Martin joined Gov. JB Pritzker in Illinois and Texas Democrats who broke quorum to fight against Trump and Republicans’ redistricting efforts. Texas Republicans are plotting to redraw the Texas congressional map to rig their way into keeping Republicans’ razor-thin majority in the House — but Democrats aren’t having it. Republicans’ plan to “pack and crack” Black and Latino voters to dilute their voting power is un-American and shows how scared the GOP is ahead of the midterm. Chair Martin made clear Democrats will fight “tooth and nail” to combat these redistricting efforts.

This summer, Democrats across the country are delivering on their promise to expand their reach and organize everywhere ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. This past week, Democrats in Minnesota, California, and Colorado hosted events and town halls to mobilize against Trump and Republicans’ budget that will devastate working families, from gutting food assistance and health care to forcing rural hospitals to shutter.

Meanwhile, as August recess unfolds and Republican lawmakers host town halls in their home districts, they are being met with scathing criticism from their own constituents. In Nebraska, Rep. Mike Flood received an earful of complaints — including a “vote him out” chant — during his town hall event from unhappy constituents upset that their representative prioritized tax handouts for billionaires over their health and food.

Democratic overperformances were on full display this week as Democrats continue to pick up seats across the country. In Rhode Island, Democrat Stefano Famiglietti won a landslide victory in the Senate District 4 race by a 67-point margin — the second largest Democratic overperformance in a 2025 special election. In Delaware, Democrat Alonna Berry clinched a win in the House District 20 special election. With these wins, Democrats have either won or overperformed in 36 out of 37 key elections in 2025.

As lawmakers head to August recess, the DNC is mobilizing events in all 50 states to hold Republicans accountable for their disastrous budget bill. The “Organizing Summer” blitz began this week in Alaska, Texas, Colorado, and California, where Democrats launched town halls, training programs, and local advertising campaigns. The “Organizing Summer” campaign will help build an early network of registered and informed voters ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, especially in districts with vulnerable Republicans, and generate Democratic enthusiasm nationwide.
