TODAY: Final Texas Redistricting Committee Hearing as GOP Rigs Maps in Desperate Ploy To Save their Majority
August 1, 2025

Texas Republicans are likely to pass their rigged maps out of committee in the dead of night
Today, Texas Republicans are holding their final redistricting committee hearing, where, after 10 hours of testimony, they are expected to pass their rigged maps in the dead of night.
A reminder: Texas Republicans have held EIGHT hearings during this special session, but only ONE was focused on flood relief for families in need.
In response to Texas Republicans planning to ram through their unpopular, gerrymandered map, DNC Chair Ken Martin issued the following statement:
“Texas Republicans are on the brink of passing rigged congressional maps to give Trump a last-ditch chance in the midterms after his historically unpopular budget bill put billionaires above the working class. Republicans know what they’re doing is a cowardly political scam — we all know it. These rigged maps are a blatant power grab designed to further dilute minority representation in Texas in a desperate Republican ploy to save face. It won’t work. The DNC supports Texas Democrats in their efforts to fight back and will continue to explore all options to stop this gerrymander.”

Texas State Representative Mihaela Plesa: “🚨HEARING NOTICE:
Texas Republicans are rushing a racially gerrymandered map that divides communities of color and dilutes their power.

Politico: “Texas lawmakers on Thursday will examine how local authorities responded to the deadly July 4 floods as public scrutiny focuses on the city and county officials responsible for emergency management.
The field hearing in Kerr County, Texas — where at least 108 of the flood’s 138 deaths occurred — will be the first chance for newly formed legislative committees on disaster preparedness and flooding to question key local officials, who remain involved in active recovery operations.”
