DNC Announces “Organizing Summer” August Recess Programming, New National Training Program to Train the Next Generation of Leaders

Democrats across the country will organize digitally and on-the-ground, host town halls, activate at state and county fairs

The new training program will train the next generation of staff and leaders through year-round bootcamps and virtual programming.

In the kick-off to August recess, today the DNC announced its “Organizing Summer” programming to hold Republicans accountable in their home states and districts following their disastrous vote for Trump’s budget betrayal that takes health care away from 17 million Americans, takes food away from 22 million families, and forces hospitals and medical centers in rural areas to close. Events will include paid media and digital in target congressional districts and Senate battlegrounds, hosting volunteer and State Party-led organizing events across the country, and a state and county fair blitz across the country to reach voters during the summer.

As part of “Organizing Summer,” the DNC is also launching a national training program to prepare the next generation of leaders to become campaign staff, organizers, and candidates. The DNC’s National Training Team will work across organizations in the Democratic ecosystem, hosting multi-day intensive bootcamps to sharpen the skills of new and existing operatives, offer on-demand training opportunities for local community leaders, and provide management and leadership coaching programs in key states. The training team has already trained over 800 people, and next week will host a data bootcamp to equip state party data directors with cutting-edge tools and best practices to implement in their states to better target and reach voters.

“Republicans are running away from Donald Trump’s tax scam because they know it’s one of the least popular bills to pass Congress in the past 40 years,” said DNC Chair Ken Martin. “As Democrats, our job is to ensure that every American across the country understands the devastating impacts of this bill. That’s why the DNC is mobilizing this August recess — starting with our weekend of action and continuing throughout the month. Democrats will be holding events, highlighting Republican hypocrisy, and ensuring Americans across the country know exactly who is responsible for taking away health care, food, construction jobs, and nursing homes in order to give massive handouts to billionaires.”

“Across the country, our Democratic state parties have been mobilizing and ready to fight back all year,” said ASDC Chair Jane Kleeb. “With Republicans coming home, Democrats are ready to engage voters and hold these Republicans accountable for voting for the biggest cut to health care ever. We’re gearing up to hold events in key House and Senate targets, and we’re ready to fight back against Republicans in places all across the country that haven’t been competed in recently. It’s time to mobilize, fight, and win. That’s what the DNC and ASDC’s August recess programming aims to do.”

August Recess programming as part of “Organizing Summer” will include:

  • A national “Weekend of Action” with events targeting the DCCC’s 35 offensive districts in-play aimed at activating over 1,000 volunteers to hold Republicans in the House and Senate accountable for voting for Trump’s budget betrayal through phonebanks, canvasses, townhalls, and protests.
  • Finally, the DNC will send mobile billboard trucks to three county fairs this weekend in PA-08, MI-07, and NJ-07 to call out their Republican congressmen in non-traditional spaces along with pairing this effort with another ad campaign that targets four other House Republicans (Rep. Andy Barr in KY-06, Rep. Max Miller in OH-07, Rep. Jen Kiggans in VA-02, and Rep. Ashley Hinson in IA-02) with digital ads that mobilize voters in their districts to join the DNC’s Weekend of Action organizing effort.

Throughout the month of August, the DNC and ASDC will be hosting August recess “Organizing Summer” events in states and districts across the country to remind Americans everywhere about the dangers of this bill.
