DNC Launches Billboards Outside Shuttering Hospitals to Make Sure Voters Know Who Is Responsible for Gutting Rural Health Care

As part of the DNC’s new messaging campaign to show how Trump’s policies are hurting the people who voted for him the most, today, the DNC is putting new billboards up outside of rural hospitals that have already had to close or cut back services, leading back to TrumpTax.com. In Silex, Missouri; Columbus, Indiana; Stillwell, Oklahoma; and Missoula, Montana, residents are already seeing the firsthand effects of Trump’s Budget Betrayal.
Donald Trump promised to lower costs for working families, but in just six months in office, Trump has done nothing but deliver the largest redistribution of wealth and the largest cut to health care in modern history. Trump’s policies are hurting his own voters the most, especially those in rural communities.
Trump’s Billionaire Budget Betrayal will gut Medicaid, forcing rural hospitals and nursing homes to close their doors and leaving residents with no other option but to travel long distances or go without the care they need.
In many states, closures are already underway. And the DNC will make sure communities — especially those who voted Trump into office — know who is responsible for shuttering their local hospitals.
Republicans assured their constituents that supplemental funding in Trump’s budget bill would offset their historic funding cuts to Medicaid, which covers an average of 19% of hospital spending.
Now, new DNC analysis shows this funding was never going to be enough to make a difference.
In fact, half of the rural hospital funding in Trump’s budget betrayal splits evenly among all states that apply, regardless of need. As a result, what is supposed to be a lifeline for rural hospitals risks these very hospitals — including in rural Missouri, Indiana, Oklahoma, and Montana — facing devastating losses without sufficient support.
To make matters worse, the other half of the funding will be dispensed by the Trump administration at the discretion of Mehmet Oz without administrative or judicial review — opening the door to corruption and incompetence.
DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:
“Rural hospitals were already on the brink of collapse thanks to Donald Trump, but now he has put the last nail in the coffin for rural hospitals with his billionaire budget bill. In states across the country, hospitals are either closing their doors or cutting critical services, and it’s Trump’s own voters who will suffer the most. This is what Donald Trump does — screw over the people who are counting on him. After blowing a lethal hole in rural hospital funding, Republicans are about to find out that their flimsy funding band-aid won’t be enough to protect them from voters’ righteous anger. These new DNC billboards plainly state exactly what is happening to rural hospitals under Donald Trump’s watch.”
