New Reports: Trump’s Job Market Continues to Take Devastating Hits Because of His Reckless Trade War
October 7, 2025

As a result of Trump’s government shutdown, the Bureau of Labor Statistics elected not to release its monthly jobs report, forcing economists to turn to other reports. Unfortunately for Trump, those show that jobs continue to disappear and layoffs continue to spike under his watch.
Internal data from Bank of America released yesterday revealed that job growth in September was so weak that it slowed the three-month moving average of job growth to the lowest level in years. According to investment giant Carlyle’s proprietary data, just 17,000 jobs were added to the job market in September — even lower than August’s anemic BLS report. And just Sunday, Moody’s Analytics’ chief economist Mark Zandi wrote that there was “essentially no job growth” in September.
Trump’s trade war has specifically slashed manufacturing jobs — despite promises of a “manufacturing renaissance.” Last week, Bloomberg reported that US factory activity shrank for a 7th consecutive month, due to a pullback in orders.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
“Donald Trump’s economy is in free fall, and there’s no hiding it. He already used his government shutdown as an excuse to dodge another devastating jobs report — and even still, numerous economic reports reveal his economy continues to slow. Trump’s tariffs are an economic nightmare for Americans: Prices are up on everything from groceries to utilities, and it’s nearly impossible to find a job as layoffs spike. Trump can’t escape the reality that his disastrous policies are throwing the job market into turmoil and crushing working families while the rich get richer.”
Trump has been claiming that his reckless tariffs are making the U.S. an “economic power” and bragging that there is “no inflation”— but Americans aren’t buying his lies. A staggering 74% of Americans say that the economy is in poor or fair condition, and nearly half believe that it has worsened during Trump’s term. There’s no getting around the fact that Trump’s economy is failing — and working families are the ones paying the price.
