Earle-Sears: “No one is going to lose their Medicaid”

Yesterday, Virginia Republican gubernatorial candidate Winsome Earle-Sears was pressed about Trump’s Big Ugly Bill, which will kick 350,000 Virginians off their health insurance and put six rural hospitals in the Commonwealth at risk of closing.

Earle-Sears couldn’t take the heat and lied, saying: “No one is going to lose their Medicaid.”

FACT: Virginians will lose their Medicaid.

• Nearly 1 in 4 rural areas rely on Medicaid — and Virginia is no exception.
• Four rural Virginia hospitals are at risk of closing due to Trump’s budget.
• Rural communities in Virginia will lose $5.95 billion in Medicaid funds over the next 10 years — the fourth highest in the country. 

FACT: Cuts to Medicaid remain deeply, deeply unpopular.

• The vast majority — 71% — of Americans oppose cuts to Medicaid.
• Over half — 55% — of Republicans oppose these cuts.
• 73% of Independents oppose these cuts as well.
