JD Vance is back in North Carolina today to try to clean up Donald Trump’s Big Ugly Bill mess, which will raise costs, kick 450,000 North Carolinians off their health insurance, and put five rural hospitals at risk of closure.

To avert this health care crisis, Democrats introduced a proposal last week that would have reversed these cuts to Medicaid and extended critical ACA subsidies — but every Congressional Republican from North Carolina voted no.

Now, JD Vance is joining every Congressional Republican in leaving town instead of coming to the table with Democrats, proving once more that Donald Trump and his Republican Party would rather shut down the government than address the health care crisis they created.

In response, DNC Spokesperson Albert Fujii released the following statement:

“JD Vance has a lot of nerve parachuting into North Carolina after casting the tie-breaking vote on the biggest health care cut in American history. No matter how much he tries to spin it, North Carolinians know who to blame for higher costs and the looming health care crisis: Donald Trump and JD Vance. That’s why Democrats are fighting to reverse these cuts and save health care for the 450,000 North Carolinians who are going to be kicked off their health insurance. While JD Vance is only looking out for Donald Trump and himself, Democrats are fighting for you.”

Reminder: these health care cuts remain deeply, deeply unpopular.

• The vast majority — 71% — of Americans oppose cuts to Medicaid.
• Over half — 55% — of Republicans oppose these cuts.
• 73% of Independents oppose these cuts as well.
